I’ve been 30 for almost a week now. Let me tell you, this first week of this new decade was not what I was expecting at all. But’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes, right?
I told you last week that last Sunday my husband’s Grandma died suddenly and that we had just put my Grandma into hospice care. On Thursday at 4:30 am, I got a call from my dad saying my Grandma had passed away. Even though I knew that it would probably happen soon, it still struck me harder than I thought.
Towards the end of last week, Adam and I headed to his hometown to be with his family and celebrate his Grandma’s life. It was extremely amazing to see just how many people she touched during her time here on earth. I’m fairly certain I met over half of the town and all of them seemed to know or remember Adam. I didn’t grow up in a small town like Paris, but I love how everyone supports each other and comes together in the good and bad times.
I also got to meet some of his family that I’ve never met before, including his sister (Hi Brooke!) and that was a blessing amidst the sorrow. It’s special for me to see where Adam came from and the important people in his life and those few days in Paris filled up my heart when it needed it the most.
I also got to spend some time with my family over the weekend. My mom, sister, and I had a little girls slumber party Saturday night and looked through old pictures and watched Friends. We laughed until we cried and stayed up way too late but it was exactly what we needed. We also got to have breakfast the next morning with my cousin Tiffany and it was just the cherry on top of everything.
30 didn’t start out the way I thought it would, but then again nothing ever really goes the way you think it will. Yes, this has been a tough week for our families. Yes, I wish there would have been more happy than sad. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t trade the love. laughter, memories, and support I’ve found this week.
Luckily on Sunday, I did get a chance to get some meal prep stuff done. Adam and I are headed on a little vacation this week (MUCH needed!) so I didn’t make a ton of stuff. Just enough to get us through! Here’s what we got this week:
- Cauliflower, bell peppers, parsnips, mirepoix (for soups), and sweet potato toast. Just like every week….
- Broccoli hash along with baked sweet potatoes (be on the lookout for this recipe soon).
- Hard-boiled eggs for lunches and egg wraps for lunches.
- Cranberry Apple gummies… still tweaking these.
- Banana bread and mini muffins for our road trip on Thursday.
