My Weekend In Cubs Heaven

Don’t worry, I’m not going to get all touchy-feely about the Cubs in this post.  I just thought it would be fun to share some of the fun things that are going on around here lately.  If you do crave the touchy-feely, you can read this Cubs post here.

Friday started off with the Cubs parade and rally.  They estimated that FIVE MILLION people showed up.  In case you didn’t know, that’s the largest sports celebration ever and the 7th largest gathering ever.  So yeah, it was a big deal.

Crowd when I got out there around 8:45…

Luckily, the parade went right by my block so I got an awesome spot right in front.  The parade started a little late (like pretty much every parade ever) and that gave me a chance to really soak in the excitement of the crowd around me.  It was a sea of Cubbie blue and it was awesome.

… and crowd about 20 minutes later.

Cops were playing catch with kids.

Not a great action shot, but these two cops played catch for like 45 minutes while these kids were waiting for the parade to start

98-year-old fans proudly waited for their team to walk by.  My Weekend In Cubs Heaven | Life Healthfully Lived

We all sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” (led by another cop).

Dogs even got in on the excitement.

It was happy pandemonium when the double-decker buses finally rolled by and you could tell that the players were enjoying the moment as much as the fans.

I didn’t go to the rally in Grant Park because it would have been impossible to get down there in time with roads closed and massive crowds.  But I did watch it on TV and it just made me love this team even more.  They were all adamant that this was a team effort, that no one was a star, and that they were doing this for the fans and all of Chicago.

The whole thing, the win, the parade, the rally, all the celebrations, were exactly what Chicago and I think perhaps the country needed.  It has been a rough election season and this World Series Championship acted like a balm to those aches.  Seeing people come together like this made my heart happy.

Which is why I will never forget this time.  It has been historic and it will forever live in my heart as one of the best experiences ever.
